AT IT AGAIN
Dawn until dusk in the Dolomites.
September 10 Worldwide Suicide Prevention Day.
On September 10 I’m going to be riding for Movember again, another AFGO* as it were.
The response to AFGO was immense. The messages I received while I was riding and since deeply touched me and proved I’m doing something worthwhile and in some form helping others as well as myself. Knowing that my exploits and openness impacts others has motivated me to challenge myself again.
Over the last couple months I’ve been struggling again. I haven’t been able to pin point why and it’s worried me that’s there’s no clear trigger but it’s been the biggest challenge I’ve faced in the last couple of years. Feelings and emotions I thought I’d overcome and put firmly in the past have returned. The difference this time is that I know I have a problem and I’m better equipped to deal with it. Unlike last time where I felt alone, this time I have a support network I know I can talk to, I know the signs and know when to talk and how. I know I can get help in a variety of forms. I also know that there are people out there who don’t feel the same and are not where I am.
I’m hoping my endeavours and posts reach people who are struggling. I hope the money I raise helps Movember continue their vital work and most of all I hope you’ll support my efforts to help others.
AFGO has almost raised £9000.00 so far. I would like to raise over £10,000 for Movember. Their work has been vital to my mental health and to help me realise I’m not alone. Through them I’ve met others in a similar position. People who thought they had no way out but to end their lives, people like me who’ve been too afraid or embarrassed to talk but also people like me who have also survived.
This ride is going to be different to the last. It’s a solo effort to tackle as many of the Dolomites iconic passes in a day as I can. Dawn until Dusk. No targets in terms of distance or elevation, just ride as far and high as I can in a day. My only target is £10,000 on September 10, Worldwide Suicide Prevention Day.
Globally 3 out of 4 suicides are men. Each year, more than 500,000 men die by suicide around the world. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year old men globally. It is the single biggest cause of death for men under the age of 45 in the U.K.

Soon I’ll be announcing AFGO 2020. A chance to help and to ride with us across some of Europe’s iconic mountain passes. Fully Supported by the Sommet team and with Francis Cade and Paul Evans, my two companions who supported me on our inaugural AFGO last June. In the meantime follow my ride on Strava and Instagram and be sure to sign up to our newsletter to stay in touch and find out more about AFGO 2020.
